Our Services> Alternatives to Violence

The Alternatives to Violence program was created as a response to incidences of domestic violence in Glencoe and the surrounding villages.

The painful secret of domestic violence crosses all socio-economic lines.  Family Service of Glencoe provides a safe, confidential place to share support and encourage open discussion about relationships and how to improve them.

The program:

  • 26 weeks long
  • Led by our experienced counselors, Brian McHugh, MSW; Nancy Rosen, MS, LPC; and Cynthia Brunson, B.A.
  • Court referrals and self referrals welcome
  • Fees based on a sliding scale

The curriculum addresses:

  • Accountability
  • Relationship dynamics
  • Cycle of abuse
  • Power and control
  • Responding to conflict
  • Living in a culture of violence

FSG believes that the cycle of violence can be broken if people have a strong commitment to change and a willingness to devote significant time and energy to the change process.
