Our Services> Health and Wellness

In 2011, Family Service of Glencoe increased its commitment to "strong families for a strong community" with the launch of a health and wellness effort called “Healthy Families, Healthy Glencoe.” The primary goals of this effort are twofold:

•  To increase awareness of the significant impact that our lifestyle choices can have on our individual and collective well-being, and

•  To offer resources and collaborative programming that can help us to take greater charge of our own health.

What people once knew only through practical wisdom we now know through solid scientific research: our physical, mental, emotional, and social health are interconnected. What we eat, for example, and how much physical activity and sleep we get affect not just our physical health, but also our mental and emotional health. And the quality of our relationships and how we manage stress in our lives influence our psychological health as well as the strength of our immune system and our ability to maintain our physical health.

From on-line surveys to educational talks, informative e-mails, social networking, and community events and partnerships, FSG offers a variety of opportunities for all of us - and for Glencoe as a whole - to improve in health and wellness and to grow stronger in body and mind.

"In the words of Dr. James Gordon, 'Self-care is the heart of all health care.' And small steps add up to big changes over time.”
