We Need to Talk: The 6th to 7th Grade Social & Academic “Explosion”
coming in April


There’s no school switch this year – still at Central – so what makes the move from 6th to 7th grade so exciting, and at times so tough?  How can kids balance bar and bat mitzvahs (preparing for their own and attending others’) and increased academic demands without burning out? Should you limit their extracurriculars, and what if they resist? How common is bullying (traditional or “cyber”) at this age, and how can you help stop it? What types and amounts of social and other media are appropriate now, and how do you know if there’s a problem with these? How do you connect on tough topics like drinking and drugs? Should a 13-year-old be dating?

Sort it all out – or at least share the anxieties – with other parents and a professional facilitator who knows early adolescence.
